Overview

It is a curious fact that the remotest valleys often reveal the most vivid stories, and we have got a 12-day trip to live with these stories. In the far east of India, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh open a world of stories written in misty tea estates, wild rainforests, and Valleys that feel untouched at times. On this trip you will get to see animals in their natural habitat and tribal traditions in the Himalayan horizons, and you’ll see why this frontier region remains one of Asia’s best-kept treasures.

Itinerary

DAY 1 Welcome to Delhi
On day one, our representatives will meet you in Delhi and will discuss the trip with you while taking you to your hotel. We will finish the formalities, and you will get to enjoy some leisure time in the town and take a good rest for the adventures of the following day.
Early in the morning we will leave for Dibrugarh via a flight, which is known to be the Tea Town of Assam. We will take you through the beautiful tea gardens and landscapes while taking you to your hotel.
As you freshen up, you will have an optional excursion to Maguri Beel. It is known for its beautiful wetland, and you will get to explore it on a traditional Non-motorised country boat and a visit to Dibru-Saikhowa National Park. This Park is home to rare birds and is rich in wildlife.
After you have had your lunch, we will set off for Miao in Arunachal Pradesh and will take about 5 hours (145 km) to reach. Miao, on the banks of the Noa Dihing River, is a charming town.
Following a day of travel and exploration, you will settle into the Namdapha Jungle Camp to rest in the Tranquil Wilderness.
With breakfast out of the way, we will begin our journey deeper into the wild Namdapha Tiger Reserve. It is India’s most pristine and biologically rich sanctuary. When we reach there, make sure to look out for long-tailed sibia on the treetops.
From here we will trek to Haldibari, where you will become a birdwatcher and spot birds like green cochoa, pin-tailed green and mountain imperial pigeons, black-headed shrike babblers, and the elusive wreathed hornbill.
Once you wake up to the chirping sounds of the birds, we will continue with our Hornbill bird trek, which takes about 7 km to walk. Since hornbill and Haldibari camp are situated at the centre of tall forest, it is highly possible for you to see species of birds, especially the White-throated Brown Hornbill and the Great Hornbill. Besides hornbills, White-tailed Flycatchers are common; Streaked Wren-babblers, Large Scimitar Babblers and Pied Falconets are also seen. Afternoon trek back to Deban. Overnight stay in a forest rest house.
Today we will be continuing with our mixed trek, where half of it we will have to travel by car and half of it we will be trekking. Afternoon trek back to Deban. Overnight stay in a forest rest house.
Today, after breakfast, drive back to Miao by Jeep and spend the night at the Miao Namdapha Jungle Camp.
After an early breakfast, we go on a scenic drive through rolling hills, dense forests, and winding rivers, arriving at the charming town of Roing. It is situated on the foothills of the Mishmi Hills and works as a district headquarters of lower Dibang. You will also get to see the vibrant culture and traditional practices of the Idu Mishmi Tribe.

As we arrive in Roing, we will get you checked into accommodation that is styled like Traditional Mishmi Huts carved out of bamboo and cane. These huts blend seamlessly into nature. In the evening, a leisurely stroll through the local markets offers a glimpse of tribal crafts, fresh produce, and the warm hospitality of this remote frontier town.

After the morning repast, prepare to be swept into a drive to Anini. The roads are going to treat you with views of lush forests, hills, and snowy mountains. We will cross the Mayodia Pass (2655m) where in winter you may get to see snow fall. Since the roads are stretched to the rugged paths, they add a sense of adventure to your ride.
By evening we will reach Anini (1968m), and you will settle into a cosy homestay, the perfect base to soak in the remote Himalayan frontier.
We will begin the day with breakfast and head to Anini View Point. Here you will enjoy the views of the town and surrounding valleys. Due to the large-scale road construction in this part of Arunachal Pradesh, Anini is accessible only for a limited time in a year. That is, only during the dry winter season, so when you get a chance, do remember to embrace it, slow down and just sink into the peace and stillness of Dibang Valley. By the evening, we will head back to your accommodation, where you can rest and enjoy the environment.
Note: Being a very remote destination, it has minimal connectivity almost all the way. So, once you leave Along, it is better to let your folks back home know that, in all probability, you will have no connectivity for the better part of the following week.
After breakfast we will drive back to Roing, which is 245 km away and takes about 7 to 8 hours to drive. When the day’s journey concludes, you’ll be accommodated overnight in Roing.
Following our morning bite, we will drive to Dibrugarh via Dhola Sadiya Bridge, which is about 160 km. Dhola Sadiya Bridge is India’s longest river bridge. You can visit the local markets there to get souvenirs for your friends and family. For your overnight stay we will check you into a hotel.
After breakfast, transfer to Delhi for your onwards journey, marking the end of an unforgettable adventure through the frontiers of the Eastern Himalayas.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of accommodation should I expect?
Accommodation is simple but comfortable, like jungle camps, guesthouses, and homestays designed in local styles. Facilities are basic compared to city hotels, but the settings are unique and authentic.
Connectivity is minimal to none in remote areas. Only BSNL works patchily after Miao, and in Anini there’s virtually no signal. It’s best to inform your family before travelling.
Namdapha is a biodiversity hotspot. While the tiger is elusive, you may spot hornbills, sibias, babblers, owls, flying squirrels, and, if lucky, rare species like the slow loris.
The treks are moderate, suitable for anyone with average fitness. Walks like the Haldibari trail involve forest paths and gentle gradients, rewarding with excellent birding opportunities.
